Turn your ICE Trikes into an electric trike

ICE trikes use a 4130 chromoly centre frame with an aluminium rear frame, 20 in front wheels and drum or disc brakes on the front. ICE's owner's manual shows a quick-release rear wheel on its trikes, which is what the f7.9 wheel is built for. Owners ride the Falco on the Sprint, Sprint X, Adventure and Adventure HD.

How the f7.9 fits each ICE

Adventure (20 in rear) · Straight fit

ICE's best-selling touring trike. Rigid, rear-suspension (4 in travel) or full-suspension frames, 275 lb rider limit, 13.5 in seat. The 20 in motor wheel gives the most climbing power. See it on icetrikes.co.

Adventure (26 in rear) · Straight fit

The same Adventure with a 26 in rear wheel for faster cruising. The f7.9 comes in 26 in. See it on icetrikes.co.

Adventure HD (20 in rear) · Straight fit

Heavy-duty Adventure rated to about 330 lb (ICE's manual says 325 lb). A good match for a motor and a full battery. See our Adventure HD conversion guide below. See it on icetrikes.co.

Adventure HD (26 in rear) · Straight fit

Adventure HD with the 26 in rear wheel. See it on icetrikes.co.

Sprint X Tour (26 in rear) · Straight fit

Lower, sportier touring trike (8 in seat). ICE lists 275 lb with the Ergo seat. See it on icetrikes.co.

Sprint X (700c rear) · Call us first

Sprint X with the 700c race wheel, 229 lb rider limit with the Air-Pro seat. We build the f7.9 in 700c; call us so we match your rear frame. See it on icetrikes.co.

Sprint (older) (20 in rear) · Straight fit

Earlier Sprint models with a 20 in rear.

Sprint (older) (26 in rear) · Straight fit

Earlier Sprint models with a 26 in rear.

VTX (700c rear) · Call us first

ICE's lightest race trike (5.9 in seat, 230 lb limit). A motor changes its character; call us first. See it on icetrikes.co.

What the conversion involves

  1. Swap the rear wheel. The f7.9 arrives as a complete wheel, built in your size, with the motor, controller and sensors inside the hub. Move your cassette across, drop the wheel in and fit the torque arm.
  2. Mount the battery. Most trike owners mount the 672 Wh battery behind the seat or on a rear rack, low and central.
  3. Add the controls. Thumb throttle and a console or the Falco Flash app. Reverse and regenerative braking are set from the controls.

No cutting, drilling or welding. Most owners finish in an afternoon; any bike shop can do it.

Please read before you convert. ICE's warranty excludes use as a "non ICE-approved power driven vehicle", and modifications. Fitting a Falco may affect your ICE warranty. Some ICE frames also use an offset rear triangle for a non-dished wheel; tell us your model and year and we build the wheel to suit.

ICE’s own e-assist, and how the f7.9 differs

ICE offers Shimano EP8/EP6 mid-drives (250 W, 85 Nm, 630 Wh) and its PERS chainless system (250 W rear hub, 700 Wh). The f7.9 gives you 750 W, a throttle, reverse and regenerative braking, and it keeps your existing chain drive.

The Falco f7.9 is a 750 W, 48 V, 672 Wh electric drive that turns the bike, trike or tandem you already own into a smart eBike. The motor, controller, torque sensor and speed sensor are all inside the rear hub, so installation is a wheel swap plus a battery. It assists to 20 mph in the US (28 mph where legal), goes up to 120 miles on a charge at level 1, freewheels with zero resistance when the assist is off, and regenerates on descents. It is the same drive that powers the Three Wheels of Magic. Read what owners say in the customer stories.

Controls: pick what suits you

ANT+/BLE wireless module

Needed for wireless mode. It connects the motor to the Falco Flash app on your phone so you can set assist and regeneration levels, change modes, read the sensors and more.

Wireless module

Wired console

An eBike computer on a five-foot cable that plugs straight into the motor. No charging, no pairing: plug in, switch on, ride. It comes with a plus/minus controller for power levels, brake and wheel circumference.

Wired console

Wired plus/minus

A simple controller for raising and lowering the power level, switching between pedal-assist and regeneration, applying the brake, and reverse on trikes.

Wired plus/minus

Combinations. The wired plus/minus and the wireless module work together: set things up in the app, then ride without your phone. The wireless module and the wired console cannot be used at the same time; choose one.

Why it rides differently

  • Patented five-phase motor: zero freewheeling resistance, about 40% more power than a three-phase motor, high-efficiency assist and regeneration.
  • Torque and speed sensing: power arrives in proportion to how hard you pedal, so it feels like your own legs, only stronger. Adjust the level any time.
  • Clean installation: wireless console and plus/minus controller keep cables to a minimum.
  • Five-year motor warranty: a direct drive has no gears to wear, and we have built them since 2011.
