Falco eDrive is the electric drive inside the Three Wheels of Magic trike and the f7.9 conversion system. It is a direct-drive hub motor with the controller, torque sensor and speed sensor built into the hub, so there is nothing to bolt on except the wheel, the battery and a control.
What makes it different
- Five-phase motor. Falco's patented five-phase design delivers about 40% more power than a comparable three-phase motor, from 750 W of assist.
- Zero freewheeling resistance. With the assist off, the wheel spins as freely as an ordinary one. Direct drive means no gears to wear or make noise.
- Torque-sensing pedal assist plus a throttle. Power comes in proportion to how hard you pedal, which feels natural and stretches range. The thumb throttle is there for curbs, driveways and pulling away from a stop.
- Regeneration. Back-pedal to brake with the motor and put energy back into the battery on descents. Five assist levels and five regen levels.
- Range. Up to 100 miles at level 1 on the standard battery; about 70 miles at level 3.
- Wireless. Bluetooth to the Falco Flash app on iOS or Android for settings and ride data, and to apps like Zwift if you want to ride indoors on a trainer.
- Five-year motor warranty. Two years on the battery. We have built these since 2011.
Three parts
The wheel: a complete rear wheel with rim, spokes, tube, tire and the motor hub, ready to drop into a frame with 135 mm or wider drop-outs, in sizes from 16 inch to 700c. The battery: lithium, 36 V 400 Wh or 48 V 672 Wh, with charger. The control: a wired console or an all-in-one +/- control, plus the thumb throttle.
