But life has a way of humbling us. In 1986, when the neurologist spoke those words—Parkinson's disease—it felt like the ground beneath my wheels had been ripped away. The tremors came first, subtle, but they soon betrayed their permanence. The stiffness followed, the slow betrayal of my own body. It wasn't just a diagnosis; it was a thief trying to rob me of the freedom I had always taken for granted.

I grieved, but I refused to surrender. Cycling wasn't just something I did; it was who I was. As the disease progressed, I adapted. My balance faltered, and there were falls. My muscles, once so reliable, started to rebel. But even as I transitioned from two wheels to a recumbent trike, I found a way to keep going. I wasn't ready to let go of the wind, the road, or the sense of freedom that came with every turn of the wheel.

Now, at 70 years old, I reflect on the life I've built despite the challenges. I'm a proud mother of three incredible children who have filled my life with love, purpose, and joy. And I'm blessed to share this journey with my wonderful husband, my rock through every twist and turn, who has supported me unwaveringly in my struggles and victories. We've created a rich life with memories, resilience, and hope.
